Virtual challenges are a simple way to lose weight, get fit and keep active at your own pace, in your own time and wherever you choose. You simply walk, run or cycle on the road or in the gym and log your distances against your chosen challenge.

You can choose from a range of gold, silver and bronze challenges depending on how much time you want to commit, but each one can take as long as you need to complete the challenge.

  • Gold challenges are the equivalent to running, walking or cycling from Lands End to John O’Groats or swimming the coastline from Ramsgate to Chichester.
  • Silver challenges are equivalent to running, walking or cycling the Air Ambulance’s 100 mile route, or you can walk, run or cycle from London to Paris or perhaps swim the English Channel.
  • Bronze challenges are equivalent to walking the length of the Inca Trail.

Virtual challenges can be undertaken individually or in groups of family, friends and work colleagues. The best way is to build the activity into your daily life such as walking to work, school or just down to the shops.

Decide whether you are going to complete the challenge on your own or as a group. If you decide to do the challenge on your own, you can still encourage your friends to join you and let the race begin. If you decide to complete the challenge as a group then each of the members inputs their own distance and the accumulative total is recorded. So if you take on the 100 mile cycle challenge for example and there are three in a team, then each member needs to complete 33 miles.
